Scholarships
for advanced musical studies

The application process for scholarships for advanced musical studies for the academic year of 2009/2010 will run from 10 to 31 March 2009.

Basic requirements for applicants
  1. Applications may be received from Portuguese citizens, holders of musical qualifications or professional musicians, devoted exclusively to the performing of classical music.

  2. Applications may be received in the fields of orchestral instruments. Priority is given to applicants aged less than 25 years who intend to pursue an artistic career as performers.

  3. Applications will not be considered for scholarships for basic, complementary, professional or higher education studies in music schools in Portugal.

  4. Applications will not be considered for courses starting prior to 1 September 2009.

  5. Scholarships sought for studies in the United States of America will only be granted on a joint funding basis, with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation assuring no more than 50% of the total scholarship.

  6. On submitting their applications, applicants automatically accept the respective Regulations, published on the website of the Music Department of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.

  7. In addition to the documents required by the Regulations, applications shall include submittal of the application form, duly completed and validated, sent through the Music Department website.

  9. Applications received after 31 March 2009 will not be considered.

  10. In addition to considering their curricula vitae, the Music Department may call applicants to undergo a practical examination.

  11. Applicants will in principle be notified of the outcome of their applications in the second half of July.

  12. Admission of a scholarship application does not represent any commitment to award a scholarship on the part of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
